It was totally left field and I could already tell I’d come across the same way to some of my closest friends back then .
It’s only much later I was to find out this was the band’s 7th album and that they’d already held some status in 1980’s pop.
Each time I’d slide in this tape and press play the first track,’Too Much Information’, exerted it’s attention enjoyably and refreshingly so awakening my readily digestible sound pallete accustomed to a house, rnb and rap diet at that stage in my musical journey .
Lyrically the song prophetically poured out facts in hip hop fashion addressing a fresh and booming developing technology as its topic : The Internet.
I’d already been wowed by the hit singles ‘Ordinary World ‘ and ‘Come Undone’.
The album was released in 1993 but I was only to fully commit on purchasing it a year or two later.
Growing up as a teen 1993 was the year I’d come to respect music videos and that’s where the group had made their mark on me.
I remember late nights risking a scolding by my mom .
I’d silently creep out my bedroom and
make it to our family living room to turn on that damn knobby TV.
I’d usually get a short 10-15 minute glimpse before ultimately being discovered watching the popular music show Zero Hour Zone.
I remember Duran’s ‘Come Undone’ and an already rap inspired, leftfield duo called >PM Dawn< had caught my eye on seeing their video ‘Through Patient Eyes’.
>Read : ‘Dawn on me’ if you’d not already done so here in ‘Thank you for the music’<
Duran Duran admittedly stated they’d tried a different creative approach to their music and were being rewarded in its success.
They would go on to release another 7 studio albums none of which having resonated as well with fans but I would only ever know them via this ‘Wedding Album’ arguably their best work .
